The Swami's Park Beach Access and Bluff Stabilization Project, owned by the City of Encinitas, was experiencing erosion of the bluff and deterioration of the beach access stairway.
 
OUR MISSION
The City of Encinitas sought aid in repairing and stabilizing the Swami's Park Beach Access. The City recognized that, as erosion of the bluff and deterioration of the stairway continued to encroach, the park could become a safety hazard for the public. J.C. Baldwin Construction (JCB) was retained as the general engineering contractor for the project to provide a blend of on-grade, cast-in-place concrete and heavy timbers. The stairway was anchored to a 12-foot-thick, 500-cubic-yard mass concrete footing at the base of the bluff.
 
The bluff was stabilized by "rock bolting," placement of 24-foot-long epoxy coated rock bolts into the cliff face. The project was logistically difficult and environmentally sensitive. Swami's was built on time and on budget. After construction of this project, the public acclaim was, "well constructed, attractive, pleasing." As well, the community services director for the City of Encinitas stated, "Swami's is truly an impressive achievement; the project went like clockwork."
